SpecificCompetencies:

  • Conductsan individualised patient assessment, prioritising the datacollection based on the patient s immediate condition or needswithin time frame specified by facilities policy and procedures orprotocols.
  • NotifiesCharge Nurse and MD of abnormalfindings.
  • Developsplan of care that is individualised for the patient reflectingcollaboration with other members of the health careteam.
  • Performsappropriate treatments as ordered by the physician in an accurateand timelymanner.
  • Performsall assigned tasks accurately (e.g., EKGs, blood draws, IV starts,etc.). Keep work area and assigned rooms clean and free of clutter.
  • Providefresh drinking water for patients every 4 hours or more as needed.Restock storage area, IV room, and wound cart for acutefloor.
  • Providesindividualised patient/familyeducation.
  • Followsfacility policy/procedure when administering medication anddocuments same.
  • Assuresthat medications are correct, not out dated, are in adequate supplyand administered asordered.
  • Documentspatient assessment findings, physical/psycho-social responses tonursing intervention and progress towards problemresolution.
  • Initiatesemergency resuscitation measures according to appropriateresuscitation protocols.
  • Respondsto emergency situations appropriately: notifies all staff, family& physician in a timely manner.
  • Carriesout emergency orders quickly and efficiently.
  • Documentssame in the patient s record. Does follow up asneeded.
  • Maintainsconfidentiality in matters related to patient, family and facilitystaff.11.
  • Providescare in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that issensitive to the patient s and family s diversity, preserving theirautonomy, dignity andrights.
  • Reportspatient condition to appropriate personnel during eachshift.
  • Adheresto standards of safety and infection control in delivery of patientcare.
  • Assistsnursing staff in other departments, as requested and if qualified,when needarises.
  • Performsnursing procedures according to facility/procedure, being aware ofall safety and infection control principles and practices. Knowshow to use all equipment and does so in a safe and effectivemanner.
  • Maintainscurrent CPRcertification.
  • Workswith other departments in coordinating smooth transfer of patientsfor procedures or diagnostic tests, AM blood draws and specimencollection as ordered byphysician.
  • Assistsin the orientation of new personnel and in staff education asneeded.
  • Assumesprofessional responsibility for assuring patient care is of thehighest standards possible.
  • Communicatesquestions about appropriateness of medical or nursing care throughchain of command, as needed.
  • Followsprocedure for medication administration and narcotics control.
  • Documentsmedications and nursing care in a timely and accuratemanner.
  • Attendsannual CPR classes and other in-service education classes relatedto job position.
  • Keepsskills up-to- date. Participates in monthly staffmeetings.
  • Worksunder the direction of the charge RN to provide nursing care toacutepatients.
  • Makeobservation, acute and swing bed charts asneeded.
  • Issafety conscious; utilises measures to prevent infections andaccidents.
  • Reportshazards to properpersonnel.
  • Assistswith direct patient care, as needed.
  • Assuresthat call lights are answered promptly and that nursing careassigned to CNA s are completed and documented according tofacility policy &procedures.
  • Performsother duties as assigned by nursingmanagement.

RequirementsPOSITIONQUALIFICATIONS:
  • A CAlicensed nurse with good physical and mentalhealth.
  • CurrentBLS level CPRcertification.
  • ACLSBLS/BCLSPALS
  • Goodphysical health and stamina with ability to walk, bend, lift andwho has the dexterity to perform the manual skills required forpatientcare.
  • Goodmental health. Is able to accept and tolerate behaviour of patientswho may be confused and may be abusive both verbally andphysically.
  • Isadaptable, able to follow directions, grasp new ideas and acceptchange.
  • Isable to communicate in English both verbally and in writing. Isable to see and hear adequately to perform functions of thejob.
  • Isdependable, reliable and has a history of goodattendance.
  • Hasstrong assessment skills and is resourceful in emergencysituations.
  • Possessesan interest in continuing education andself-development.
  • Above-averageinterpersonal, problem-solving, and written and oral communicationskills.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: A CA licensed nurse with good physical andmental health.
