Senior Reservoir Engineer

Job Description

Primary Purpose of the Role

As a Senior Reservoir Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting in-depth reservoir engineering analysis and studies to ensure that reservoirs are being developed and managed in the most efficient and sustainable manner. This includes reviewing and updating existing reservoir models using new data, and constructing new models as necessary. Your role will involve ensuring the collection and analysis of accurate data on reservoir characteristics and performance, improving the understanding of the reservoir. You will be tasked with estimating hydrocarbons in place, forecasting reservoir behaviour, and contributing to special studies and initiatives aimed at maximising oil recovery.

You will identify reservoirs requiring detailed study and work collaboratively with specialists from various disciplines (such as geology, petrophysics, and other technical fields) to carry out comprehensive reservoir evaluations. This includes running simulation models to process and analyse data. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date reservoir and well-file records, advising operators on testing procedures and intervals, and ensuring that testing methods are accurately followed.

Required Experience and Skills

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience, including 1-2 years working at well sites with a reputable oil and gas operator, in all areas of reservoir development including testing, modelling, and sampling.
  • Proven ability to work according to highly specialised technical and professional standards, with a considerable degree of independence in addressing challenges and defining methodologies for studies.
  • Consistently produces high-quality, "fit-for-purpose" work, ensuring results are free from deficiencies, which fosters a high level of trust among team members.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge in reservoir engineering, as well as a good working knowledge of other technical disciplines within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrable ability to plan, organise, and execute studies and projects effectively.
  • High degree of self-reliance and capability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Competent in integrating data and analysis from a variety of sources to develop a cohesive and accurate reservoir model.
  • Ability to coordinate in-house, laboratory, and external consultant activities within your discipline.
  • Proficiency with relevant industry-standard software applications and tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong interpersonal abilities.
  • A proven track record of working effectively within diverse, cross-functional teams.
  • The ability to navigate complex situations involving multiple disciplines, identifying critical variables and managing them effectively.
  • Proficient in managing subsurface uncertainty, anticipating alternatives, quantifying risk, and maximising potential rewards.
  • The nature of the role requires mental resilience to handle frequent disruptions outside normal working hours and make informed operational decisions under time-sensitive conditions.

Educational Qualifications

  • A Bachelors degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
