Job Description

Job Responsibility:

  1. Prepare and develop arrangement and detail conceptual, FEED studies, and detail design drawings of high technical quality and professional consistent presentation ensuring clarity and ease of construction.
  2. Develop 3D models and ensure clash-free with other disciplines.
  3. Ensure design deliverables are completed and issued per project specifications, MDR, and project Level 2 & 3 procedures, and within agreed schedules and budgets.
  4. Apply knowledge and/or skills to a range of activities.
  5. Set priorities, organize own work and time to meet objectives, and as a Lead Designer, forecast and manage the design process.
  6. When acting as Lead Designer, in addition:
    1. Direct small or medium Instrument Design team as Lead Designer.
    2. Lead projects engaging the participation of other disciplines and coordinate all activities within own discipline and interfaces with other disciplines.
    3. Plan, organize, and direct all aspects of Discipline execution on the assigned project including scope, deliverables, schedule, and all Discipline manpower resources.
    4. Ensure interfaces and deliverables are clearly identified.
    5. Maintain responsibility for progress and productivity, identifying any required corrective action.
    6. Act as project-based Discipline point of contact in communications and meetings with Project Team, Customer, Vendor/Supplier, and relevant agencies.
  7. When acting as Design Coordinator, in addition:
    1. Coordinate project Design interdisciplinary activities to ensure timely and organized distribution of information amongst all Lead Designers.
    2. Become fully familiar with the project scope of work, specification, schedule, and all inter-discipline requirements; identify concerns as early as practicable.
    3. Identify changes to the scope and promptly raise change notifications and provide necessary supporting documentation and estimates.
    4. Interface with all disciplines to develop a clash-free design.
    5. Liaise with other discipline support groups to ensure clearly defined interface, deliverables, and schedule are met.
    6. Document substantive communication and forward copies to Discipline Lead Engineer and Discipline Manager.
    7. Assist Discipline Lead Designer in preparing estimates for proposal and job scope changes.
  8. Participate in finalizing deliverable list and ensure compliance with specification and functional integrity.
  9. Review project schedule and fabrication schedule in relation to construction sequence, milestone, and design scope.
  10. Attend project kickoff and review meetings, vendor/supplier meetings, engineering and design meetings, and offshore site surveys, as required.
  11. Research customer standards and procedures to prepare project-specific design procedures and standards for submission to the Customer for approval.
  12. Set up and maintain the Discipline Master design drawing and document files.
  13. Develop and maintain the project job book.
  14. Prepare and review discipline deliverables such as 3D models and detailed design drawings.
  15. Assist in providing necessary design inputs to other disciplines.
  16. Perform design verification through single discipline checks (SDC) and/or inter-discipline checks (ID).
  17. Monitor progress and maintain the deliverables register on an ongoing basis.
  18. Ensure compliance with the project execution plan and the timely completion of drawings and documents.
  19. Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to others.
  20. Assist in the maintenance of departmental technical guidelines and standards.
Desired Candidate Profile

High school graduate with a diploma in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Design, or Drafting in a related discipline or equivalent experience.

  1. Minimum of fourteen (14) years of experience with a major contractor or consultant, of which nine plus (9+) years of experience in predominately offshore oil and gas.
  2. Detailed knowledge of associated industry detailing standards and codes.
  3. Detailed knowledge of 3D and 2D drafting and material control systems (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation).
  4. Working and/or reviewing experience in PDMS and/or PDS/SPM.
  5. Capable of handling multiple projects.
  6. Recognized expert in one or more skill sets.
  7. Knowledge of QA systems and a good communicator.
  8. Knowledgeable in project coordination and execution skills.
  9. Detailed knowledge of AutoCAD and/or macro compilation skills would be an advantage.
