Technical Engineering Manager (Metal Fabrication, Manufacturing & Fitout)

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Engineering Manager – Metal Fabrication to lead our Manufacturing & Fitout operations.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Oversee the design and production teams, ensuring efficient project execution.
  • Be responsible for estimation, value engineering, and technical problem-solving to optimize project outcomes.
  • Have a Structural/Civil Engineering background with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the industry.
  • Possess expertise in signages, gantry structures, crash barriers, wayfinding, digital signages, and joinery/carpentry works.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and team management skills to drive productivity and seamless coordination.
  • Communicate and justify design approaches to clients effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategic objectives and KPIs for the technical section in line with overall strategic goals.
  • Review the performance of design, engineering, production, and carpentry sections, ensuring corrective measures for improvement.
  • Lead design, engineering, production, and carpentry teams to facilitate efficient manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of standardized production procedures to achieve targets, operational efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Lead the preparation of designs, engineering drawings, and prototypes in line with client requirements and technical specifications to enhance manufacturability and serviceability.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to develop and execute quality strategies, ensuring material conformance, waste reduction, and compliance with health, safety, environmental, and building standards.

Budget & Cost Control:

  • Develop and maintain budget allocation for design, engineering, production, and carpentry sections to optimize cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure the implementation of design, engineering, production, and carpentry policies and procedures.
  • Administer prompt, fair, and consistent corrective actions for policy violations in coordination with the direct manager.
  • Investigate and recommend actions to address weaknesses in internal controls or compliance issues.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in production processes and technology.

People Management:

  • Identify manpower requirements and coordinate with the HR department for recruitment activities.
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals and facilitate skill development.
  • Provide leadership and feedback to ensure a high-performing workforce.
  • Guide employees through daily activities and assist in technical skill development.
  • Offer constructive performance feedback to promote staff development.

Operational Excellence:

Production Efficiency & Process Optimization

  • Standardize and execute production processes to minimize downtime, maximize machine utilization, and reduce lead times.
  • Ensure effective plant operations for optimal efficiency, safety, and profitability, meeting quality standards and customer expectations.
  • Identify and resolve inefficiencies in processes, materials, equipment, or skills.

Maintenance & Equipment Management

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize machine downtimes.
  • Oversee the operation of the carpentry workshop, including purchasing, stock management, paint facilities, and machinery.

Project & Resource Management

  • Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets for timely, cost-effective delivery.
  • Track project costs and milestones to meet client requirements.
  • Ensure accurate reporting and documentation for production, delivery, and installation.

Onsite Execution & Quality Assurance

  • Lead the carpentry team in effective onsite planning, event/exhibition setup, and high-quality deliverables.
  • Supervise the painting team to meet client specifications for paint application and powder coating.

Technical Support & Compliance

  • Provide technical guidance for tenders, proposals, and quotations.
  • Review field inspection reports, engineering drawings, and prototypes to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Maintain strong relationships with regulatory authorities to stay updated on regulations and secure necessary approvals.

Stakeholder & Client Communication

  • Communicate key project information to clients and teams, ensuring transparency on any issues affecting client relations.
  • Ensure effective coordination between production, delivery, and installation teams for seamless project execution.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Architectural Engineering.
  • 8 to 10 years of experience in technical project delivery within the region.
  • 4 to 6 years in a managerial role.
  • Proficiency in MS Project, Primavera, AutoCAD, and MS Office tools.
