GENERAL TASK: Babysitters are in charge of taking care of another family's child or children. Their responsibilities include making sure the children are safe, feeding and bathing the children when necessary, and adhering to the parents' standards of care. Babysitting positions may be regular daily positions or on an as-needed basis. Some positions may be considered full-time, while others may just be considered part-time or hourly. Some positions involve assisting the mother of father while he or she is home, or taking full responsibility while the mother or father is away from the home.

**Responsibilities**:

- Keep the play area safe and free from hazards while monitoring children consistently throughout the day.
- Sanitize play equipment, games and toys on a regular basis to keep them safe and attractive while minimizing the spread of germs.
- Change diapers, dress children and assist them with their snacks, drinks and meals as needed.
- Teach children the importance of good personal hygiene and health habits, including the importance of brushing teeth, eating healthy food, using the toilet and getting adequate rest.
- Engage in educational activities with the children, including reading, crafts, drawing, coloring and singing.
- Keep an individual record for each child that includes information about his or her behaviors, daily activities, meals eaten, medications received and other important and mundane details. Discuss this information with each child’s parents on a daily or weekly basis.
- Discipline unruly children as needed, focusing on using creative ways to encourage good behavior such as picking up after themselves, participating in the lesson plans and treating each other kindly.
- Create daily lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate, fun and interesting. Lesson plans should always encourage full participation from each child.

**Job Skills & Qualifications**

**Required**:

- Must be at least 21 to 35 years old
- Minimum of a high school diploma
- Prior experience in working with infant, toddler and pre-school age children
- Preferably with First Aid and CPR Certification/Training

**Skills**:

- Exceptional bathing skill, coupled with planning, dressing, and arranging the home environment
- Exceptionally skilled in care giving; always conscious of personal hygiene
- Ability to efficiently perform simple household activities without supervision
- Skilled in entertaining kids and keeping them company by playing with them; couple with proven ability to engage children in creative and learning activities
- Demonstrated ability to care for newborns, infants, and toddlers
- Ability to keep records of daily activities and possibly health information of children
- Ability to put the kids to bed without engaging inappropriate measures, like scolding
- Ability to efficiently control the activities of children
- Should be fairly intelligent to help the children with their homework
- Ability to act calm in situations of medical emergencies
- Ability to handle kids; being patient with them
- Ability to maintain a clean and healthy environment inside the home
