To take leadership responsibility and accountability as a member of the team by contributing to the management of the daily news agenda across all platforms, driving key stories ‘on the day’ news coverage and deliver high quality content whilst managing deadlines and all resources to an exemplary high standard.

**Main Duties & Responsibilities**
- To work on the assignment desk, execute daily news coverage plans, commissioning, TV and digital content from correspondents in the field with consultation with EP’s and Editors
- To manage, select and deliver material from newsgathering teams, particularly reporters in the field.
- Communicate and Co-ordinate to ensure Senior Producers, Editors, reporters and production staff are fully briefed
- Work closely with Senior Producers and Editors to agree priorities and allocate relevant resources.
- Produce timely and accurate content for the main stories of the day and support the coverage of breaking news.
- To train and develop employees and junior members of the team and provide guidance, support and direction.
- Manage, conduct and record risk assessments as required and in line with the company security and safety policy.
- Dealing with live ‘breaking news’ and developing ideas resulting into successful creative programme with speed.
- Write, translate and adapt items, news stories or programme material and to edit packages at the desktop
- To liaise closely with team colleagues and all contributors, reporters, stringers and when commissioning material, to provide effective guidance and support
- Liaise with correspondents and producers, gathering information and advice on stories and coverage
- Provide ideas and suggestions for programmes, stories and attend pre programme and planning meetings when required
- Manage and undertake pre and post production and studio work, both live and pre-recorded.
- To work with technical systems and manage a range of video, audio and digital equipment and other technology to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver programmes to an exceptional high standard whilst in the appropriate medium
- Produce graphics at the desktop and in collaboration with graphic designers.
- Communicate and Co-ordinate to ensure presenters, Reporters and production staff are fully briefed on the execution of the daily planning agenda
- Work closely with correspondents and producers to ensure effective television packages and live broadcasting is delivered on time and to a consistent high standard
- Provide proactive support and assist in forward planning with bookings
- Gather information and advice on running stories from the field by fact finding and undertaking background research to support the Newsroom
- Sound knowledge of conditions of service and general terms of employment relating to employees and freelancers
- Plan long term projects and manage the commissioning and designing program features
- Develop and maintain accurate, comprehensive and daily diaries and contact details
- Manage staff in the field
- Deploy staff with the necessary editorial and technical expertise and interpersonal skills who will be able to fit into a diverse environment
- Manage, conduct and record risk assessments as required and in line with the company security and safety policy
- Deputise for Senior Producers, Editors in their absence as required
- Promote and encourage team work and collaboration
- To be responsible for a moving story, amending and updating material as required in order to build compelling and engaging news sequences.
- To assist in planning next day or longer term coverage, booking two-ways and packages from correspondents in the field, and a range of related tasks.
- To liaise with correspondents, gathering advice on stories and coverages and providing support.
- To offer ideas for stories and items, programmes and series, attending pre-programme and planning meetings as required. To suggest new angles and formats on existing stories in order to bring them to life for the audience.
- To be up to date with the main stories, fact checking; undertaking background research as required.
- To think through and around editorial problems.
- To liaise closely with other team members and with contributors, reporters and stringers and when commissioning material to give effective guidance.
- To undertake pre and post production and studio work, live and pre-recorded. After appropriate training, use a range of video, audio & digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver programmes in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.
- To be familiar with different technical systems, including news production systems, demonstrate a willingness to learn to operate new technology systems and to be able to adapt to different working methods.
