Car Upholstery Technician

**Job Summary**:
A Car Upholstery Technician is responsible for repairing, restoring, and customizing the interior upholstery of vehicles. This includes seats, carpets, roof liners and door panels. The technician uses various materials such as leather, vinyl and fabric to ensure the vehicle's interior is aesthetically pleasing and comfortable.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Assessment and Diagnosis**:

- Inspect vehicle interiors to assess the condition of upholstery.
- Identify damage, wear and tear, and necessary repairs or replacements.

**Repair and Replacement**:

- Remove and replace damaged upholstery components such as seats, headliners and door panels.
- Repair tears, burns and holes in upholstery using patches and adhesives.
- Install new upholstery materials, ensuring proper fit and finish.

**Customization**:

- Work with customers to determine their preferences for custom upholstery.
- Select and cut materials based on customer specifications and vehicle dimensions.
- Sew and assemble custom upholstery pieces using industrial sewing machines and hand tools.

**Installation**:

- Install custom and pre-fabricated upholstery kits.
- Ensure all installations meet safety and quality standards.

**Maintenance**:

- Clean and maintain upholstery tools and equipment.
- Keep the work area organized and free of hazards.

**Customer Interaction**:

- Communicate with customers to understand their needs and provide updates on job progress.
- Provide cost estimates and timelines for upholstery work.

**Quality Control**:

- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets company standards for quality and craftsmanship.
- Address any issues or discrepancies promptly.

**Skills and Qualifications**:
**Technical Skills**:

- Proficient in the use of industrial sewing machines and upholstery tools.
- Knowledge of various upholstery materials and their properties.
- Ability to measure and cut materials accurately.

**Experience**:

- Previous experience in automotive upholstery or a related field.
- Familiarity with automotive interior structures and components.

**Physical Abilities**:

- Manual dexterity and strong hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to lift and manipulate heavy upholstery materials and components.
- Stamina to work in physically demanding conditions.

**Soft Skills**:

- Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and customer service skills.

**Education and Certification**:

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification in automotive upholstery or a related trade is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.

**Working Conditions**:

- Full-time position.
- Work is typically performed in a workshop or garage environment.
- May require standing for long periods and handling materials that can be bulky and heavy.

**Salary**:
