The Publications Manager at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Global South at Northwestern University in Qatar will oversee the editorial process of #IAS_NUQ_Press publications from inception to production. This position is a dual report to the Director and Assistant Director of the Institute for Advanced Study in the Global South.

IAS_NUQ_Press is an open access, multimodal, and multilingual publisher housed at the Institute of Advanced Study in the Global South at Northwestern University in Qatar. It publishes academic papers, multimodal projects, edited volumes, and special issues to promote evidence-based storytelling focused on the media, histories, cultures, societies of the Global South.

This role ensures that all publications meet the highest standards of quality and align with the Institute’s vision and mission. It will oversee all stages of editing, including structural/developmental, line, and copyediting; manage the editorial calendar and all review processes; manage the process of translation; develop and maintain the #IAS_NUQ_Press style guide and review all content for accuracy, clarity, style, and tone; develop digital and multimodal publications; collaborate with other staff, departments, and outside vendors on publication layout, design, printing, dissemination, and promotion; ensure compliance with Northwestern University branding, visual, and editorial guidelines; and track and monitor the success of publications.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Oversee in-house academic publications from inception to production, including developmental, copy, and line editing.
- Coordinate editorial processes: manage the editorial calendar, oversee the review and approval process for all publications, and coordinate peer reviews.
- Manage the process of translation of all publications into Arabic and other languages, including sourcing translators, assigning reviewers, and ensuring consistency and adherance to NU-Q editorial guidelines.
- Collaborate with the #IAS_NUQ Assistant Director and Communications Coordinator to produce institutional publications, such as annual reports, conference materials, and other promotional items.
- Manage operations of edited volumes, journal special issues, and digital roundtables related to #IAS_NUQ research themes.
- Develop and maintain the #IAS_NUQ_Press style guide, establish a glossary of common terms and phrases in multiple languages, and review all content for accuracy, clarity, style, and tone.
- Collaborate with the #IAS_NUQ Communications Coordinator on development of digital and multimodal publications.
- Work closely and collaboratively with the #IAS_NUQ Communications Coordinator and NU-Q Communications & Public Affairs Division to increase the visibility and dissemination of #IAS_NUQ_Press publications, ensuring all marketing and promotional activities align with Northwestern University's editorial and visual guidelines.
- collaborate with the #IAS_NUQ Communications Coordinator, NU-Q Communications & Public Affairs Division, and relevant external vendors on layout, designing, and printing of publications.
- Track and monitor the success of publications. Develop and implement a metrics-oriented approach to evaluate the performance of all #IAS_NUQ_Press publications. This includes setting key performance indicators (KPIs), analyzing readership data, citation rates, and engagement metrics, and preparing regular reports to inform strategic decisions.
- Manage exchanges with authors in a timely manner and respond to unsolicited submissions.
- Ensure compliance with Northwestern academic integrity rules and norms, copyright laws and industry standards and serve as liaison to NU-Q and NU libraries.
- Will perform other duties as assigned.

**Minimum Qualifications (education, experience, certifications, skills**):

- Bachelor’s degree in publishing, communications, journalism, area studies, language and literature, or other relevant fields.
- Minimum of 5 years in an editing or publishing role, preferably within an academic or research setting.
- Experience editing undergraduate papers/publications.
- In-depth familiarity with multimodal forms of publication and latest digital humanities tools, platforms, and best practices.
- Strong proficiency in all stages of editing, including structural/developmental, line, and copyediting.
- Ability to set priorities, organize workflow, work independently on assigned projects, and collaborate in a hard-working, small-team environment, demonstrating an exceptional work ethic and following through on initiatives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience with Software/Platforms: Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), content management systems, and digital publishing tools.
- Ability to work and interact with diverse populations.
- Excellent command of written Arabic and/or other language
