Job Summary and Purpose

As a Marine Operations Superintendent, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of vessels, while meeting all regulatory, company, and customer requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

Cargo Management and Compliance
  • Ensure vessels are operated in a safe, reliable, and economical manner, meeting the highest industry standards.
  • Drive compliance with international and national statutory requirements, as well as company policies related to shipping operations, safety of navigation, and marine personnel.
  • Act as the owner's representative for all commercial STS and ESTS.
Vetting of Vessels
  • Ensure vessels in the fleet are vetted successfully, arranging timely SIRE/CDI inspections and initiating remedial actions as needed.
  • Manage the entry of details from the VPQ into the SIRE system and maintain relevant vessel particulars data.
Audits and Ship Inspections
  • Conduct ship inspections on a regular basis, ensuring effective ship management during calls to Ras Laffan or sailing visits.
  • Carry out internal audits, including navigational, galley, and cargo audits.
  • Conduct safety, security, environmental, and other SHEQ internal audits as applicable.
Safety Management System
  • Maintain the Safety Management System (SMS) of the organization, focusing on improving quality, efficiency, and accuracy.
  • Brief new senior officers on the Safety Management System, company policies, vessel operations, and specific charterer requirements.
Monitor Communication
  • Confirm that owned vessels managed by third-party operators are operated efficiently, in line with Master Service agreements, owner's instructions, charterer's instructions, and TCP.
  • Ensure managed vessels are operated as per TCP obligations.
Voyage Planning
  • Supervise the voyage planning and performance process for vessels managed by NSQL, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and charterer's requirements.
  • Help the organization avoid performance-related claims and provide support in challenging claims if raised.
Key Qualifications and Experience

A degree in Nautical Science or a related field, and/or a Master Mariner Certificate of competence, is required. 8-12 years of experience, including 3 years as Master on LNG/LPG or crude/oil carriers, and at least 2 years in a head office management position of a large gas/oil shipping company.

Experience working with personnel from different cultures is essential.

Fully conversant with international and national statutory requirements of the Maritime industry, including SOLAS, ISM, MARPOL, ISPS, SOPEP, and ISOs.

Auditing skills, including Lead ISO, ISM, and ISPS auditor, are required.

Computer literacy in Microsoft suite of products is essential.
