The Specialist Doctor - Aeromedical Centre will play a pivotal role in developing a world-class Aviation Medical Centre for the airline, Qatar Airways Group. This position requires a highly skilled and experienced medical professional to provide specialist aviation medicine advice and clinical services to support the airline's staff and operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Policy and Procedures: Responsible for creating and maintaining efficient and cost-effective Aeromedical Health Services policies and procedures.
  • Support Strategic Delivery of Health Educational Programs: Collaborate with the VP - Aeromedical Centre and Specialist Occupational Health doctor to deliver health educational programs for the company.
  • Develop and Expand Aeromedical Services: Contribute to the development and expansion of aeromedical services to support Qatar Airways operations.
  • Certify Fitness to Fly: Certify the fitness to fly of QR and non-QR flight deck, cabin crew, and air traffic controllers, as well as other airlines' aircrew when required.
  • Provide Medical Consultations and Regulatory Advice: Offer medical consultations and regulatory advice to aviation employees.
  • Advise on Passenger Health Issues: Provide medical advice to the business regarding passenger health issues, such as fitness to fly and health onboard.
  • Advise on Occupational Health and Raise Awareness: Advise on matters related to occupational health and raise awareness for occupational health-related medical issues within the business.
  • Oversee Performance and Practice of Company Doctors: Oversee the performance and practice of company doctors assigned to the aeromedical centre and supervise their practice as necessary.
  • Provide Advice on Complex Aeromedical Cases: Provide advice and assessment of complex or long-term aeromedical cases referred by colleagues or HR business partners using an evidence-based approach.
  • Maintain Knowledge of Latest Scientific Research: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest scientific research within the aviation medicine arena and engage with the assigned external medical community to monitor developments and ensure that the Qatar Airways Medical Centre employs international best practice in all areas.
  • Support Provision of Accurate and Timely Aviation Medicine Advice: Support the VP - Aeromedical Services in providing accurate, timely, and evidence-based aviation medicine advice to both staff and the airline.
  • Function as Medical Review Officer: Assist the VP in oversight of drug and alcohol testing process and policy and management of cases following testing.
  • Ensure Compliance with Regulatory Standards: Assist the VP in ensuring that the aeromedical services remain compliant with regulatory standards from various regulators, such as EASA/FAA/QCAA.
  • Establish Reviews of Aviation Medicine-Related Cases: Establish reviews of aviation medicine-related cases to enhance productivity, drive down absenteeism, and support employee retention.
  • Maintain and Update Aviation Medicine Knowledge: Support the VP-Aeromedical Centre in the maintenance and update of the Aviation Medicine knowledge, expertise, and training across the department for all clinical staff.
  • Liaise with Aeromedical Team and QR Group Flight Operation Departments: Act as a focal point for liaison with the Aeromedical team and QR Group Flight Operation Departments.
Qualifications

About You

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent with a minimum of 10 years of job-related experience.
  • A Primary Medical Degree from an accredited university.
  • An accredited specialist in Occupational Medicine with a recognized qualification in Aviation Medicine (Diploma, Masters or above) or an accredited specialist in Aviation/Aerospace Medicine.
  • A Class 1 Aviation Medical Examiner with an ICAO contracting state for at least 5 years.
  • Experience in a commercial aviation setting.
  • Experience in passenger health / fitness to fly / aeromedical retrieval.
  • Command of the English language.
  • Relevant management experience.
