Job Overview

Wood is a leading consulting and engineering company, seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer Manager to lead our team in Qatar. As a key member of our civil structural department, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality design calculations and drawings within stipulated timeframes.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Team Leadership: Lead a team of engineers and designers, providing guidance and technical support to ensure successful project delivery.
  2. Design Development: Develop structural designs from conceptual stages through detailed design, providing sustainable and efficient solutions.
  3. Technical Support: Provide guidance and instruction to engineers on secondary calculations and designers on detailing and drawing.
  4. Specification Preparation: Prepare specifications for design basis reports and soil investigations in line with client requirements.
  5. Cross-Functional Teamwork: Collaborate with other departments, projects teams, and site teams for optimized layouts and arrangement of structures.
  6. Engineering Coordination: Coordinate with other departments and teams for inputs or comments on civil and structural drawings prior to submission to clients.
  7. Vendor Review: Conduct technical discussions with subcontractor consultants for review and approval of drawings and design calculations.
  8. Industry Software Proficiency: Utilize industry software, including 3D model review tools (SPR & Navis Works), MS Office Suite, etc.
  9. Geotechnical Report Review: Review geotechnical reports and interpret soil parameters for analysis and design of shallow and pile foundations.
  10. Project Coordination: Participate in project coordination meetings with site teams, vendors, review consultants, and clients to resolve technical issues and prioritize engineering activities.
  11. Evaluation of Bids: Evaluate supplier/subcontractor bids for compliance to client specifications and scopes of work.
  12. Site Visits: Conduct site visits to resolve construction problems and site mismatches with respect to drawings issued for construction.
  13. Pre-Bid Engineering Support: Provide pre-bid engineering support by calculating architectural, civil, and structural BOQs.
  14. Standardization: Prepare standard spreadsheets, audit, and approve standard design programs/templates related to civil and structural engineering.
  15. Culture Promotion: Promote an organization culture that encourages innovation, enhances employee motivation, and supports development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
  1. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university with a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in the Oil & Gas industry, including 5 years in the GCC region.
  2. Leadership Experience: At least 5 years of experience in a similar position in mega Oil & Gas or Petrochemical projects, managing teams of specialists, senior engineers, and engineers.
  3. Software Skills: Expertise in using structural software such as SACS, STAAD Pro, intermediate knowledge on FEM software like ANSYS & FEMAP, review software like TEKLA & NAVIS, and conversant in mathematical tools like Mathcad and MS Excel.
  4. International Codes and Standards: Familiarity with international codes and standards like API, AISC, ISO, EN1993 (EURO), BS, ABS, and DNVGL. Also conversant with ADNOC design standards.
  5. Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing with other disciplines and multinational workforces.
