Key Responsibilities
- Review and correct daily revenue journals, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and posted to the general ledger.
- Control balance sheet accounts by preparing monthly account reconciliations and taking action as necessary to resolve any discrepancies.
- Verify the accuracy of accounts payable balances, proposing actions and follow-up to ensure a clear balance with minimal over 90/120 day amounts.
- Manage accommodation advance deposits, monitoring and reporting on any variances.
- Maintain accurate records of house bank and investment balances.
- Analyze and investigate cashiers' over and short transactions.
- Codify and input manual cheques into our accounting system.
- Investigate and input bank statement data, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare bank reconciliations, including agency impressions and replacement reserves.
- Review accounts payable monthly inventory reconciliations and journal entries.
- Monitor travel agency commission payments and verify their accuracy.
- Maintain the replacement reserve cash book, ensuring it's up-to-date and accurate.
- Review and prepare input in the general ledger from various sources, including bank statements and credit card reconciliations.
- Assist in reviewing food and beverage control reconciliations and journal entries.
- Verify the accuracy of accounts payable/inventory interface.
- Prepare month-end journals, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and posted.
- Review and prepare balance sheet records, identifying and reconciling all items therein.
- Audit payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Prepare monthly invoices for other IHG hotels, General Managers, Store and Shop rentals.
- Prepare all journal vouchers for month-end closing, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare monthly Financial Statements for distribution to Department Heads and Executives, as directed by the Assistant Finance and Business Support Manager.
- Be responsible for month-end back-office computer closing, ensuring all systems are up-to-date and accurate.
- Approve various city ledger transactions before posting, verifying their accuracy and authenticity.
- Prepare asset purchase/disposal reports for owners, ensuring they're accurate and complete.
- Approve payment requests, employee advances, and petty cash prior to payment, ensuring all transactions are legitimate and authorized.
- Assist the Finance and Business Support Director and Assistant Finance and Business Support Manager in budget preparation and input, forecast reports, and monthly reporting to corporate finance.
- Supervise the Accounts department in the absence of the Assistant Finance and Business Support Manager, ensuring all tasks are completed accurately and on time.
- Report directly to and communicate with the Finance and Business Support Director and Assistant Finance and Business Support Manager on all matters pertaining to accounting and financial controls.
- Cooperate, coordinate, and communicate with other departments in matters concerning accounting-related issues and internal controls.
- Interact with individuals outside the hotel, including banks, tax auditors, and other hotels and IHG corporate offices, as required.
- Work with superiors and Human Resource Managers to ensure the departmental performance of colleagues is productive.
Your Skills
- Minimum of 3 years' experience as an Accounting Manager in a similar capacity in a hotel or hospitality industry.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Knowledge of current and possible future policies, practices, trends, and technology in the hospitality industry.
- Excellent communication skills within the organization, with a proactive approach to communication.
- High managerial skills to meet and focus on deadlines, planning, results-driven, and flexible.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
