Roles and responsibilities
  • Teaching and Instruction

    • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons on a variety of topics in English, including reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and literature.
    • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that meet the needs of diverse learners, adapting content to suit different learning styles and abilities.
    • Teach both language skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening) and literary analysis, including comprehension, analysis, and interpretation of texts.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where students feel motivated to engage with the material and participate in discussions.
    • Encourage students to develop critical thinking skills, creativity, and confidence in using the English language.
  • Classroom Management

    • Establish clear expectations and routines to create a safe, respectful, and well-structured learning environment.
    • Manage classroom behavior effectively, using positive reinforcement and clear boundaries to maintain discipline and focus.
    • Foster a classroom culture of respect, collaboration, and active participation, where students feel comfortable sharing ideas and opinions.
  • Assessment and Evaluation

    • Assess student progress through regular quizzes, essays, assignments, presentations, and other forms of evaluation.
    • Provide constructive feedback to students on their work, guiding them toward improvement in their language skills and understanding of literature.
    • Monitor and track students' academic progress, identifying areas for improvement and offering additional support when necessary.
    • Grade assignments fairly and consistently, ensuring that assessments align with learning objectives and curriculum standards.
  • Student Support and Development

    • Provide individualized support to students who need extra help, including tutoring or differentiated assignments for those with different learning needs.
    • Encourage students to engage with English outside of the classroom through reading, writing, and practical language use.
    • Act as a mentor, helping students develop academic skills, study habits, and time management.
    • Promote a growth mindset, encouraging students to see mistakes as opportunities for learning and improvement.
  • Curriculum Planning and Development

    • Collaborate with other English teachers and the school leadership to develop and refine the English curriculum, ensuring that it is comprehensive, relevant, and aligned with educational standards.
    • Integrate technology and digital resources into lessons to enhance learning and engagement.
    • Stay updated with the latest trends in teaching and literature, incorporating contemporary texts and ideas into lessons.
    • Adapt lessons and materials to address the needs of students with varying levels of proficiency in English.
Desired candidate profile
    • Previous experience teaching English, preferably at the secondary or higher education level.
    • Experience with a variety of English language learners, including non-native speakers, is an advantage.
    • Experience in teaching literature, writing skills, grammar, and language development.
    • Experience in differentiating lessons to meet the needs of diverse students, including those with learning disabilities or special needs.
  • Teaching Skills

    • Strong knowledge of English grammar, literature, composition, and reading comprehension.
    • Ability to design and deliver engaging lessons that stimulate students' interest in reading, writing, and language learning.
    • Experience in integrating digital tools and multimedia resources into lessons to engage students and enhance learning.
    • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Classroom Management Skills

    • Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to create a positive, productive, and disciplined learning environment.
    • Ability to handle disruptive behavior calmly and constructively while maintaining the focus and engagement of the class.
    • Effective communication with students, encouraging active participation, discussion, and collaboration.

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with students, parents, and colleagues.
    • Ability to build rapport with students and foster a supportive and encouraging classroom environment.
