Roles and responsibilities

1. Planning and Delivering Lessons

  • Develop lesson plans that are aligned with the curriculum and exam requirements (e.g., GCSEs, A-Levels), covering core scientific principles across various subjects such as biology, chemistry, and physics.
  • Teach key scientific concepts, ensuring that students understand the principles, methods, and terminology of the subject matter.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles, including lectures, group discussions, practical experiments, demonstrations, and project-based learning.
  • Incorporate real-world examples to show students how science is applied in daily life and in various industries such as healthcare, engineering, and environmental science.
  • Adapt lessons for students at different ability levels, ensuring both struggling students and advanced learners are appropriately challenged.

2. Assessment and Tracking Student Progress

  • Assess students' understanding of scientific concepts through regular tests, quizzes, assignments, lab work, and projects.
  • Provide constructive feedback on student assessments to help them improve their understanding and skills.
  • Use data from assessments to track student progress, identify areas where students need additional support, and adjust teaching methods accordingly.
  • Prepare students for external examinations, including reviewing key topics, providing revision materials, and teaching exam strategies.

3. Classroom Management

  • Create a positive and safe classroom environment that promotes respect for both the teacher and classmates and encourages open dialogue.
  • Establish clear rules and expectations for student behavior, especially when conducting laboratory experiments and using scientific equipment.
  • Use effective classroom management techniques to maintain order during practical lessons, ensuring that students stay focused and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Foster an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, participating in discussions, and engaging in hands-on experiments.
Desired candidate profile

An educational degree, such as Bachelor's in Education Degree or related field.
A certified teaching qualification such PGCE, QTS with an Induction Certificate or equivalent (the PGCE must be accompanied by a subject relevant Bachelor's Degree)
Minimum two years of teaching experience (international experience is an advantage but not required)
Exceptional subject knowledge, with extensive experience of teaching the British National Curriculum and trained in Secondary school environment.
A passion for fostering a student-centered learning environment.
A commitment to professional growth and a collaborative approach to teaching.
A proven track record of providing outstanding teaching and learning.
A commitment to actively participate in extracurricular activities after school hours
Providing Additional Support
Offer individualized support to students who may be struggling with specific mathematical concepts or skills, including one-on-one tutoring or small group sessions.
Provide differentiated tasks for students who need more challenging work, ensuring that advanced learners are stretched and motivated.
Offer regular office hours or additional study sessions for students who need extra help or want to reinforce their understanding outside of regular class time.
