Roles and responsibilities

1. Lesson Planning and Delivery

  • Create Engaging Lessons: Develop and deliver age-appropriate, dynamic lessons that teach students various physical skills, sports, and fitness activities.
  • Incorporate a Variety of Activities: Plan a well-rounded curriculum that includes a mix of team sports (e.g., soccer, basketball), individual sports (e.g., track and field, tennis), fitness training, and health education.
  • Adapt to Student Needs: Modify lessons and activities to accommodate students with varying fitness levels, abilities, and interests, ensuring inclusivity and engagement for all students.
  • Promote Healthy Lifestyles: Integrate lessons on physical health, wellness, nutrition, and mental health, encouraging students to adopt long-term healthy habits.

2. Classroom and Behavior Management

  • Establish Expectations: Set clear rules and guidelines for behavior and safety in the gym or outdoor settings.
  • Maintain Discipline: Manage student behavior during physical activities, ensuring that all students are respectful, cooperative, and focused.
  • Promote Respect and Sportsmanship: Foster positive attitudes toward competition, teamwork, and fair play, teaching students to handle success and failure graciously.

3. Physical Education Assessments

  • Track Student Progress: Assess students' physical development, skills, and fitness levels through tests, quizzes, practical assessments, and observations.
  • Provide Feedback: Offer constructive feedback to students on their performance and development, both individually and in group settings.
  • Evaluate Fitness and Skill Growth: Create assessments that measure physical fitness improvements, athletic skills, and overall participation in physical education.

4. Safety and Risk Management

  • Ensure Safety: Monitor all physical activities to ensure that students are practicing safe techniques and using equipment correctly to prevent injury.
  • Supervise Physical Activities: Provide constant supervision during all PE classes and extracurricular activities, ensuring that students are safe during exercises and sports.
  • Respond to Injuries: Be prepared to respond to accidents or injuries with first aid and maintain a first-aid kit in the PE area.

Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly with students, colleagues, and parents, including giving instructions, feedback, and encouragement.
Physical Fitness and Knowledge: Demonstrating high levels of physical fitness and a solid understanding of exercise science, nutrition, and sports techniques.
Classroom and Behavior Management: Ability to maintain discipline in both physical and classroom settings. Effectively manage students' behavior and create a safe, supportive learning environment.
Assessment & Evaluation: Ability to assess students' physical skills, fitness levels, and progress in both individual and team sports. Provide regular, constructive feedback.
Adaptability: Ability to adjust lesson plans and activities based on the needs and abilities of the students, creating inclusive learning experiences.
Technology Integration: Familiarity with using technology in PE, such as fitness tracking tools, sports video analysis, or apps for tracking students' progress.
