Roles and responsibilities

1. Identification and Assessment of Needs

  • Identify students who may have special educational needs, using a variety of assessment tools.
  • Carry out assessments or work with external specialists to ensure accurate identification of learning difficulties or disabilities.

2. Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)

  • Develop, implement, and review Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with SEND.
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers, parents, and other professionals to create personalized support plans for students.
  • Regularly review and update the IEPs to track students' progress and make adjustments as needed.

3. Liaison and Collaboration

  • Work closely with teachers to ensure effective teaching strategies are in place to meet the needs of students with SEND.
  • Liaise with parents and caregivers to keep them informed about their child's progress and any support they are receiving.
  • Collaborate with other school staff, such as teaching assistants (TAs), to implement strategies for supporting students.
  • Engage with external agencies and professionals, such as speech therapists, educational psychologists, and counselors, to support students.

4. Training and Professional Development

  • Provide guidance and professional development opportunities for other staff members on SEND-related issues.
  • Stay informed about current best practices, policies, and resources in special education.
  • Promote awareness of SEND within the school to ensure a whole-school approach to inclusion.

5. Resource Management

  • Ensure that appropriate resources, including teaching materials and specialized tools, are available to support students with SEND.
  • Manage any specialized equipment or resources required for students' learning needs.
  • Work with the school leadership team to allocate resources effectively.
Desired candidate profile
  • An educational degree, such as Bachelor's in Education Degree or related field.
  • A certified teaching qualification such PGCE, QTS with an Induction Certificate or equivalent (the PGCE must be accompanied by a subject relevant Bachelor's Degree)
  • Minimum two years of teaching experience (international experience is an advantage but not required)
  • Experience in applying for access arrangements to support students in achieving optimal exam assistance.
  • Exceptional subject knowledge, with extensive experience of teaching the British National Curriculum and trained in Secondary school environment.
  • A passion for fostering a student-centered learning environment.
  • A commitment to professional growth and a collaborative approach to teaching.
  • A proven track record of providing outstanding teaching and learning.
  • A commitment to actively participate in extracurricular activities after school hours
