Senior Software Developer

Aiming at _Defining the Digital Utility_, Iberdrola Innovation Middle East (ME) works at the intersection of energy and digital technologies, focusing on three key innovation and product development areas: smart grids, renewable energy integration and smart solutions for our customers.

The Position

The Company is currently expanding its technical teams and is looking for a Senior Software Developer with strong backend knowledge and experience to strengthen its digital product development capabilities.

Jobs to be done
- Lead the design, development, and optimization of robust, scalable, and secure backend services in a self-sufficient cross-functional team.
- Implement microservices and APIs using Python and/or Java, ensuring best practices in security, performance, and maintainability.
- Work closely with AI engineering teams to productize machine learning models as backend services.
- Define and enforce backend coding standards and development best practices.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, providing technical guidance and support.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to optimize CI/CD pipelines and automation strategies.
- Employ DevSecOps practices and contribute to continuous security improvements.
- Leverage AI-assisted tools (code generation, test creation, static analysis) to enhance productivity and quality.
- Actively participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with internal quality standards and external regulatory requirements (e.g., data protection regulations).
- Document solutions clearly and contribute to the team’s knowledge base (Confluence, internal wikis).

Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of professional experience as a Backend Engineer or Software Developer or Software Architect.
- Advanced proficiency in Python (preferred) and/or Java.
- Strong experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs.
- Experience with microservices architecture, containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Solid understanding of cloud-native development, ideally with exposure to Google Cloud Platform (preferred) or Azure.
- Experience with relational and non-relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cloud Spanner).
- Proficient in using version control systems (GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps).
- Strong unit testing and integration testing practices.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and project management tools (e.g., Jira, Azure Boards).
- Willingness to adopt AI-powered development tools and workflows.

Preferred qualifications:

- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and/or Microsoft Azure and/or AWS.
- Experience in building SaaS/PaaS platforms, especially multitenant and multi-region architectures.
- Familiarity with Big Data architectures and streaming data processing.
- Exposure to MLOps practices and AI/ML model deployment.
- Solid foundation in software architecture design principles (e.g., SOLID, Clean Architecture).
- Experience working with serverless technologies (e.g., Cloud Functions, Cloud Run).
- DevSecOps or Security-first design mindset.
- Professional certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., Google Professional Cloud Developer, Azure Developer Associate).
- Agile certifications (Scrum, SAFe, or similar).
- English proficiency certificate (C1 or C2).

Years of experience
- Senior professionals (+8 years of relevant experience) will be considered in the selection process. 5-8 years experienced profiles could be considered if they are outstanding.
