Collection Researcher

Key Accountabilities:
Role Purpose

Provides support to all day-to-day aspects of the care of the General Collection, including assisting in the planning, development, research, and implementation of collection exhibitions, touring exhibitions and/or curated exhibitions organized with loans, or touring exhibition.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Conducts provenance research of objects in the General collection and validates findings by discussing them with other relevant GC staff
- Supports in the setting up and/or assembly of objects for display.
- Maintains and updates accurate records pertaining to the collection, using a computerized collections management system.
- Provides information and answers or refers questions about the collection as requested
- Provide general curatorial/research assistance in the planning and organization of exhibitions, including scholarly research and logístical support in the preparation of checklists, loan requests, rights and permissions, transcriptions, exhibition catalogues, interpretive materials, related public programs, and other exhibition-related materials.
- Develop and assist with the production of online content related to provenance of objects.
- Utilizes library archives, collections, and other resources
- Conducts research on various collection types within the General Collection
- Prepares reports on completed projects for publication, presentation, or other use
- In collaboration with collection section identifies potential and documentation priorities
- Conducts and organizes research based on the General Collection Policy and Collection Development Plan
- Prepares text and research to be shared with the public and community through exhibitions and publications
- Conducts provenance research of objects in the collection
- Constructing narratives in both the material and digital collection.
- Proposes digital and interactive exhibits
- Advances the research and interpretation of objects in the collection
- Pursues independent research project(s), which ideally illuminate objects in the collection
- Fosters and maintains good working relationships with colleagues from QM and other institutions in Qatar and abroad.
- Answers correspondence relating to the collection and assisting the public and visiting scholars
- Responsible for providing labels, catalog essays, and other content supporting exhibitions.
- Provides information related to copyright, intellectual property, and fair use of collection objects.
- Interpersonal skills to work cooperatively in a team environment; communicate with team members; and participate as an effective team member
- Knowledge of basic collections management procedures, including museum registration methods and basic artifact care and handling
- Able to prioritize the ability to develop strategies for photographing and uploading large numbers of objects individually, quickly, and accurately when project requires
- Drafts procedures related to the curatorial and research work
- Ability to take direction & be receptive to constructive feedback.

- Must possess creativity, passion, and ambition about the history of art with a view to considering the accessibility and its audiences.
- Experience with the exhibition and publication making process is highly desirable
- Prior curatorial or museum experience is desirable.
- Knowledge of contemporary practices from around the world.
- Must possess strong research skills.
- Must possess strong written and verbal skills.
- Must be able to communicate and collaborate well with others in the realization of complex projects.
- Must be well organized and detail oriented with excellent planning and implementation skills.
- Must be able to work independently, able to anticipate needs on projects.

- BA degree in art history, Museum studies or related field. Masters preferred.
