Job Description:
**Job Title**: Hydraulic Technician
**Reports to**: Maintenance Manager / Service Manager

Key Responsibilities:

- **Installation of Hydraulic Systems**:

- Install and commission hydraulic systems, components, and equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
- Set up hydraulic pumps, valves, cylinders, motors, and piping systems.
- Test new installations to ensure systems function properly, adjusting settings and making fine-tuning adjustments as necessary.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to guide installations.
- **Maintenance and Inspection**:

- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on hydraulic systems and equipment.
- Check fluid levels, pressure settings, filters, and overall system performance to ensure efficient operation.
- Replace worn-out parts, such as seals, gaskets, hoses, and filters, before they lead to larger failures.
- Clean hydraulic components to maintain their functionality and longevity.
- **Troubleshooting and Repair**:

- Diagnose issues in hydraulic systems, such as leaks, pressure drops, or mechanical malfunctions.
- Use diagnostic tools and instruments, such as pressure gauges, flow meters, and hand tools, to pinpoint faults.
- Repair or replace faulty components, including pumps, valves, cylinders, seals, and hydraulic motors.
- Test repaired systems to verify that they meet operational standards and resolve any remaining issues.
- **System Testing and Calibration**:

- Test hydraulic systems under different load conditions to ensure optimal performance.
- Calibrate control systems, pressure settings, and hydraulic power units (HPUs) for peak efficiency.
- Monitor system performance using gauges and sensors, making adjustments as needed for safe and effective operation.
- **Safety and Compliance**:

- Adhere to all safety regulations and best practices when working with high-pressure hydraulic systems.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards for hydraulic system safety.
- Safely handle hydraulic fluids, chemicals, and waste according to environmental regulations.
- **Documentation and Reporting**:

- Maintain detailed records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance performed on hydraulic systems.
- Document the condition of components and any issues encountered during repairs.
- Prepare reports for supervisors or customers, detailing work completed, parts used, and future maintenance recommendations.
- **Technical Support and Customer Service**:

- Provide technical advice and support to customers or colleagues regarding the operation and maintenance of hydraulic systems.
- Assist with on-site troubleshooting and repairs for clients as needed.
- Offer guidance on hydraulic system upgrades or modifications to improve performance and efficiency.
- **Training and Development**:

- Stay updated with new hydraulic technology, tools, and techniques by attending training sessions or certification programs.
- Share knowledge and best practices with team members or junior technicians to ensure consistent quality of work.

**Requirements**:

- **Education**: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in hydraulics or mechanical systems is preferred.
- **Experience**: Proven experience as a hydraulic technician or in a similar role involving hydraulic systems.
- **Certification**: Certifications from accredited organizations like the International Fluid Power Society (IFPS) are advantageous.
- **Skills**:

- Strong understanding of hydraulic systems, components, and principles.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, pressure gauges, and hand tools.
- Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong mechanical and technical aptitude.
- Basic electrical knowledge to work with electro-hydraulic systems.

Physical Demands:

- Ability to lift and move heavy hydraulic equipment and components.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces, standing, bending, and lifting for extended periods.
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and outdoor environments.
- Ability to work in industrial environments, including loud noises, dust, and potentially hazardous conditions.

Work Environment:

- Industrial sites, construction sites, manufacturing plants, or workshops where hydraulic systems are used.
- Exposure to high-pressure systems and hazardous fluids, requiring adherence to strict safety protocols.
- Occasional travel to customer locations for on-site repairs and servicing may be required.
