General Responsibilities:

  • Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot all radio and communication equipment including VHF, HF, satellite systems (Inmarsat, FleetBroadband), and emergency distress channels (e.g., Channel 16).
  • Maintain continuous watch on distress frequencies and coordinate emergency communication procedures during incidents such as man overboard, medical evacuations, or fire.
  • Record all transmissions, compile daily logs, and generate communication activity reports.
  • Facilitate communication with support vessels, helicopters, shore bases, and emergency services.
  • Conduct routine inspections, maintenance, and testing of radio equipment and antennas.
  • Coordinate personnel movements, supply runs, helicopter arrivals/departures, and personnel transfers.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations and activate the vessel's emergency communication protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with maritime and international communication regulations, including GMDSS standards.
  • Keep up-to-date with operational procedures, safety protocols, and crew training on communication systems.

Job Requirements:

  • Should have 6 months' experience in a communications position in the marine industry.
  • The candidate must have knowledge of helicopter operations.
  • A valid General Operator GMDSS certificate
  • a valid basic safety training course (survival course), including HUET as applicable
