Key Accountabilities:
Role Purpose:
Assist the Head of Digital by:
providing strong experience-based Audio-Visual technical support QOSM's musicographical AV and digital array.
carrying out a regime of daily, start-up checks, preventive and responsive maintenance activities (experience of Watchout blending a must), ensure a seamless, high-quality, and up-to-date audio-visual experience is delivered at QOSM.
Supporting futureproofing of the digital media exhibits (content, software, and hardware).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Carry out the Museum's audio visual and interactive opening and closing duties, ensuring that all elements are fully operational before the Museum opens to the public, and that exhibits are correctly shut down at the end of the day.
- Ensures all visual elements screens and projection systems are running and displaying the correct content.
- Carry out regular (usually 2 hourly) daily and periodic checks to ensure that all galleries are running properly from an AV perspective.
- Proactively identify potential defect issues and detail proactive resolutions, troubleshoot safety and technical issues, resolve issues in a timely manner to ensure the safety and operational integrity of the Museum's gallery and exhibitions experience.
- Assist with AV requirements for exhibitions.
- Plans and carries out maintenance tasks, system checks and frontline maintenance.
- Upload software and hardware updates and upgrades on physical and metaphorical attractions, as required.
- Upload new content (text, images, and other digital assets) using content management software in coordination with the Senior Digital Media Specialist.
- Maintain accurate work records, provide detailed system checks, findings, and all work in line with approved reporting systems.
- Contributes to the creation of reports on the condition and inventory of A.V. equipment and produces quarterly and annual reports
- Carry out low-level server and rack apparatus cleaning, maintenance, repair, adjustment, upgrading and, when necessary, replacement of AV equipment to ensure optimum functioning.
- Ensures that data security and internet usage are safe and secure
- Ensures that machine, switch and appliance usage is safe and secure.
- Constantly maintain a clean, safe work environment and follow the approved health and safety requirements. Working at height may be a requirement albeit within 5m from finish floor.
- Follow proper safety procedures and equipment husbandry associated with tooling, pieces of equipment and material.
- Inspect equipment, mounting fixings and supports to ensure they conform to a rigorously safe and secure standard. Immediately report issues and potential issues and arrange their rectification in discussion with the Head of Digital.
- Ensures that the process follows QM policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with other departments and provide support as needed to facilitate exhibitions, filming in the galleries and special events, only if requested and approved by the Head of Digital.
- Work with and supervise contractors if required.
- Conforms to the code of ethics governing the museum profession.
- Carries out other activities as requested by the Head of Digital.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- This role requires full colour vision and normal hearing.
- A keen interest in Audio Visual technology, sound systems, playbacks systems and computing technology.
- Can use tools and soldering appliances. (advantageous but not critical).
- Demonstrate a good knowledge of software, tools, and equipment, and address any gaps in knowledge, understanding and software accreditations as required by the Head of Digital.
- Can use stills and video cameras. (advantageous but not critical).
- Advanced computer skills and ability to use office software.
- Ability and interest to keep up with current and future technology and trends.
- An interest in implementing new ideas and concepts to improve workflow and in gallery best practices.
- Good organizational skills.
- Accepts responsibility and is self-motivated.
- Strong interpersonal reliability, as the Museum's ability to open is determined by daily routines being carried out accurately and with strict punctually.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Interest in professional development.
- Fluency in English.
- A higher diploma or bachelor's degree in technology, computing science communication or the relevant fields.
- English, Maths, and Science to GCSE or equivalent.
- Specific industry qualifications, CTS, CAT, Crestron/Extron control system understanding. Programming skills a specific advantage.
- Industry training from manufacturing bodies, Barco, Sony, Panasonic (desirable, but not essential).
- Intermediate understanding of Fibre carrying digital video and USB protocol and transmission technology.
- Knowledge of X86 computer/server environments with win 10/11 O.S.
- Electrical hazard knowledge can identify, must report unsafe electrical practices.
- Able to provide an electronic portfolio of professional and/or personal work
- 9 years' work experience in a related field.
