The UK Mission to Afghanistan at the British Embassy in Doha is part of a worldwide network that represents the UK’s political, economic, security, and consular interests overseas and is now looking for an **Afghanistan Politics and Communications Intern.**

72 of us, of many different nationalities and backgrounds, work together at the British Embassy in Doha (including UK Mission to Afghanistan staff) to make the United Kingdom more prosperous and more secure, and to give consular assistance to British citizens who need their Government’s help. The Corporate Services section is at the heart of the Embassy, responsible for many operations from recruitment, IT, finance, estates management and so on. The UK Mission has been working from the British Embassy in Doha since the British Embassy in Kabul closed in August 2021. The UK Mission works closely with other likeminded countries' Missions who also left Kabul, covering Political, Humanitarian, Economic, Human Rights, Security and Consular work.

**Main purpose of job**:
**Duties and responsibilities**:
Afghan Politics & Press Reporting

Produce daily Afghan press content for UKMIS Afghanistan and the wider network by analysing Pashto and Dari media (including social media). Summarise key developments and debates in a daily round-up providing insight into trends, discussions and events in Afghanistan’s public and politics. Provide other ad hoc reporting based on key engagements, events and social media monitoring.

Communications & Social Media

Support UKMIS Afghanistan in publishing Pashto and Dari-language content on social media channels to deliver our public diplomacy objectives. Advise UKMIS on communications approach in order to improve impact and reach multiple Afghan audiences.

Afghan Politics & Logistics Support

Support Political Team to develop and manage UKMIS Afghanistan’s network with a broad range of contacts across the political spectrum inside Afghanistan - including with the current Taliban authorities, provincial and local leaders, minority groups, civil society, and the media. Help to prioritise, plan and co-ordinate the delivery of UKMIS Afghanistan’s engagements with these contacts while providing advice on local culture.

Translation and interpretation support

Provide translation services for written ontente (social media posts and WhatsApp messages). Provide intrepretation for British diplomats during calls and in-person meetings with external contacts. The job holder must be able to provide this support in Pashto. If they can also provide this support in Dari that would be helpful, but not essential.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience
