Roles and responsibilities

1. Lesson Planning and Delivery

  • Develop Art Curriculum: Design a comprehensive art curriculum that incorporates a variety of techniques, materials, and art forms, including drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, photography, printmaking, and mixed media.
  • Teach Art Theory: Introduce students to the history of art, famous artists, art movements, and cultural influences, helping them understand the context behind artistic works.
  • Provide Skill-Building Exercises: Teach foundational skills such as line drawing, shading, color theory, composition, and perspective, progressively building students' technical abilities.
  • Foster Creativity: Encourage students to experiment with different art styles, tools, and materials to find their personal artistic voice, and inspire them to think outside the box.

2. Classroom Management and Student Engagement

  • Maintain a Positive Learning Environment: Create a welcoming, safe, and inclusive classroom where all students feel free to express their creativity.
  • Manage Class Behavior: Establish and maintain classroom rules, ensuring that students respect materials, their peers, and their workspace during art lessons.
  • Encourage Active Participation: Engage students in individual and group projects, discussions, and critiques that stimulate their creativity and allow them to collaborate.

3. Assessment and Feedback

  • Monitor Student Progress: Evaluate students' artistic development through their classwork, projects, portfolios, and individual creative work.
  • Provide Constructive Feedback: Offer thoughtful, positive feedback on students' artwork, providing guidance for improvement while celebrating their artistic growth.
  • Assess Skill Development: Assess students' mastery of techniques, understanding of artistic concepts, and their ability to express ideas visually.

4. Extra-Curricular Activities and School Events

  • Organize Art Exhibitions: Plan and organize art shows and exhibitions, showcasing student work to the wider school community and parents.
  • Lead Art Clubs: Run extracurricular clubs or workshops, where students can further develop their artistic skills outside the classroom, such as after-school drawing sessions or painting clubs.
  • Encourage Participation in Competitions: Guide students to participate in local, regional, or national art competitions, encouraging them to challenge themselves and gain recognition for their talents.
  • Collaborate on School Projects: Work with other teachers or departments to incorporate art into school-wide events or interdisciplinary projects (e.g., murals, set design for school plays).
