Quality Control Engineer

**Reporting To**: Production Manager (temporarily, until a QA/QC Manager is appointed)
**Duty Time**: Fixed hours, 6 days a week, no overtime.
**Quality Assurance (QA) Responsibilities**:
- **Developing Quality Plans**:
- Prepare and implement quality assurance plans and procedures to ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and standards.
- **Documentation and Record Keeping**:
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for materials (MIR), inspections, welding, testing, and certification( WIR) to ensure traceability and conformity to standards.
- **Supplier and Material Qualification**:
- Evaluate and approve raw material suppliers and ensure that all incoming materials meet the required quality standards.
- Review material certificates, test reports, and other relevant documentation.
- **Process Audits**:
- Conduct regular audits of fabrication processes to ensure adherence to quality plans.
- Review fabrication methods, welding procedures, and workmanship to ensure consistency.
- **Training and Awareness**:
- Ensure that employees are trained and aware of quality standards, procedures, and practices.
- Provide training on inspection methods, quality control, and safety standards.
- **Compliance with Codes and Standards**:
- Ensure that fabrication processes follow the appropriate codes, standards, and project specifications (e.g., AWS D1.1, AISC standards).
- Keep up with changes in industry standards and regulations.
- **Continuous Improvement**:
- Identify areas for process improvements and ensure corrective actions are taken to prevent recurring issues.
- Implement initiatives for quality improvement based on feedback, non-conformance reports, and internal audits.
**Quality Control (QC) Responsibilities**:
- **Inspections and Testing**:
- Conduct inspections at different stages of the fabrication process, including:
- Dimensional checks of steel components.
- Fit-up and alignment inspections.
- Visual and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) of welds (e.g., Ultrasonic Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing).
- Perform final inspections to ensure that the finished product meets client specifications and applicable codes.
- **Welding Inspection**:
- Monitor welding operations to ensure compliance with approved welding procedures (WPS) and specifications.
- Inspect welds for defects, porosity, and quality, ensuring compliance with welding standards.
- **Monitoring Compliance**:
- Ensure that all fabrication work is done in compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
- Verify that any deviations or modifications are properly documented and approved.
- **Material Traceability**:
- Ensure proper identification and traceability of all materials used in the fabrication process.
- Monitor the use of materials to ensure that they match the relevant certifications and standards.
- **Non-Conformance Management**:
- Identify, document, and report any non-conformances or defects in materials, processes, or products.
- Work with the production team to resolve quality issues, ensure corrective actions are implemented, and re-inspect the work after corrections.
- **Final Product Verification**:
- Ensure that the final product is free of defects and meets all project specifications and requirements.
- Prepare final inspection reports and ensure that all necessary certifications (e.g., weld maps, NDT reports) are complete.
- **Coordination with Clients/Third-Party Inspectors**:
- Liaise with clients, engineers, and third-party inspectors for quality inspections and audits.
- Facilitate inspections, and provide relevant documentation and evidence for project quality assurance.
**General Responsibilities**:
- **Safety Compliance**: Ensure adherence to safety protocols and guidelines during the fabrication and inspection processes.
- **Reporting**: Prepare and submit daily, weekly, or monthly quality reports to Manager.
- **Calibration of Equipment**: Ensure that all testing and measuring equipment are properly calibrated and maintained to ensure accuracy during inspections.
