Key Responsibilities

Stakeholder Management
  • Work closely with Business Unit representatives and operational leads to provide a comprehensive commercial service.
  • Interpret complex contracts and subcontracts to provide accurate advice and recommendations in line with agreed requirements.
  • Problem-solve contractual issues as they arise.
  • Communicate with all internal stakeholders, the customer, and subcontractors to ensure each are fully informed of key issues.
  • Provide clarity in a user-friendly way on commercial processes for employees to follow.
  • Ensure requirements and obligations are managed by technical leads in accordance with the contract.
Subcontractor Management
  • Manage key subcontractors to deliver against main contracts.
  • Ensure subcontractors meet their contractual obligations.
  • Maintain strong relationships ensuring clear and regular communications.
  • Manage contract Variations, Claims, and Disputes.
  • Use of trackers, dashboards, and other reporting processes.
  • Provide support and administration for procurement and tendering of additional goods and services.
  • Management and support of payment activities.
Finance and Budget Management
  • Work with the Finance Directorate, and relevant Technical team to calculate KPR's and impacts relating to performance.
  • Work with Business Unit lead to prepare and agree unit budget on an annual basis and provide accurate budget management data throughout the financial year.
Commercial Operations
  • Assist the Commercial Director with strategic and operational improvements.
  • Create and/or improve templates with a view to streamlining processes and identifying any gaps.
  • Provide clear communications as to current activities, risks, and issues on a regular basis.
  • Provide mentoring and training as required.
  • Carry out any other mission, project, or work assigned by the Commercial Director.

Required Core Skills and Experience

  • Solid understanding of Contract Forms and dispute procedure. FIDIC is considered desirable but not essential.
  • Strong on Contract Management generally in complex environments with transferable skills.
  • Experience of the railway industry, or design and build, or operations and maintenance environments is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong on relationship management with strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong on performance measurement with emphasis on cost analysis and financial capability.
  • Understands commercial processes and impact in a contract management environment.
  • Analytical skills with high attention to detail and logic based on facts.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Strong team player and positive contributor to collaborative working including when faced with resistance.
  • Proactive problem solver and works under pressure.
  • Objective, resilient, and balanced in approach.
  • Ability to understand technical concepts and their commercial application.
  • Ability to quickly identify issues, provide a solution, and complete.
  • Knowledge of key systems including Aconex and SAP are desirable but not essential.
  • 10 years' experience with 5 years in a similar role.
  • Ability to transfer to live and work in Qatar.
  • Experience and work in Qatar or the Middle East, however neither are essential where the ability to transition is more important (assistance will be provided for those transferring from overseas).

The following represent desirable qualifications; however, candidates who have demonstrable transferable skills from mathematical or scientific backgrounds are encouraged to apply:

  • Legal and Finance qualifications are desirable.
  • Business orientated Graduate Qualification or Diploma is desirable.
  • Engineering qualifications considered desirable.
