Journalist - Planning

**Job Summary**:
To take responsibility and accountability as a member of the news team by contributing to the management of the daily news agenda across all platforms, driving key stories whilst managing deadlines and all resources to an exemplary high standard. You will assist the Producers and Senior Producers in leading deployments and ensure the most efficient use of resources to deliver the best possible news content. You will be fully engaged with the team in providing an efficient and comprehensive plan on both strategic and day-to-day levels.

**Main Duties & Responsibilities**
- To play a leading role in the development of 24/7 TV journalism, and to contribute to the overall shape and editorial strength of the Channel and the news content.
- Follow up on the risk assessment process for deployment.
- Write, translate and adapt items, news stories or programme material and to edit packages at the desktop
- To liaise closely with team colleagues and all contributors, reporters, stringers and when commissioning material, to provide effective guidance and support
- Liaise with correspondents, Producers and senior producers, gathering information and advice on stories and coverage
- Provide ideas and suggestions for news bulletins and programmes, stories and attend pre programme and take an active role in all planning meetings
- To work with technical systems and manage a range of video, audio and digital equipment and other technology to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver programmes to an exceptional high standard whilst in the appropriate medium
- To plan daily news coverage, commissioning TV and digital content from correspondents in the field
- Work closely with correspondents to ensure effective television packages and live broadcasting is delivered on time and to a consistent high standard
- Provide proactive support and assist in forward planning with bookings
- Gather information and advice on running stories from the field by fact finding and undertaking background research to support the Newsroom
- Sound knowledge of conditions of service and general terms of employment relating to employees and freelancers
- Contribute to the strategic planning and research, commission reporters and stringers. Coordinate coverage of major events of interest to broad audiences whilst managing resources
- Develop and maintain accurate, comprehensive and daily diaries, calendars and contact details
- If required, conduct and record risk assessments as required and in line with the company security and safety policy
- To be responsible for a moving story, amending and updating material as required in order to build compelling and engaging news sequences.
- To assist in planning next day or longer term coverage, booking two-ways and packages from correspondents in the field, and a range of related tasks.
- To suggest new angles and formats on existing stories in order to bring them to life for the audience.
- To be up to date with the main stories, fact checking; undertaking background research as required.
- To think through and around editorial problems.
- To liaise closely with other team members and with contributors, reporters and stringers and when commissioning material.
- To undertake pre and post production and studio work, live and pre-recorded. After appropriate training, use a range of video, audio & digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver programmes in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.
- To understand changes in the media industry and upcoming digital transformation and the use of modern technologies.
- To find contributors and interviewees when required, as well as other sources of material and/or actuality, as appropriate and to the required specification.
- Occasional deployment in the field for the right person with the appropriate technical expertise and editorial judgement.
- To observe and carry out any requirement outlined in Alaraby’s safety policy and specifically to conduct risk assessments when appropriate.
- To carry out the above duties and responsibilities in accordance with applicable legal obligations, including broadcast regulations specifically in accordance with the Ofcom Code.

**Essential**
- Able to demonstrate conceptual and analytical skills including a solid understanding of Journalistic and Editorial knowledge.
- Previous experience in a Journalist or similar role
- Able to work with minimum supervision within a fast paced environment and achieve objectives
- Proven track record of delivering what is required within tight deadlines and exceptional standard
- Able to work with precision, accuracy and applies a high attention to detail
- Effective presentation skills using multimedia tools
