JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Psychologist is an entry-level position that is performed through a collaborative and supportive manner as part of a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and Mental Health (MH) team. The Assistant Psychologist will typically aid Clinical Psychologists and other health professionals by preparing intakes, assisting on SUDs and MH assessments, research, and performing structured and previously approved therapeutic interventions appropriate to their level of competence and knowledge. Assistant Psychologist will function under direct supervision
only
of a licensed Clinical Psychologist and the support of other senior health professionals. Assistant Psychologists may not practice independently from the designated Clinical Supervisor who is licensed by DHP.

Clinical interventions shall be provided under MDT Lead clinical supervision.
This job requires the job holder to work with cross-functional teams and follow Clinical Staff guidance, as needed.

Generic Responsibilities:

  • Preparing intake summaries and treatment plans.
  • Charting patient progress and related documentation,
  • Collecting human subjects' data for SUDs and mental health-related research studies.
  • Case management (develop plans, identify & coordinate with service providers, monitor progress, provide support for co-workers).
  • Administering and scoring psychological (cognitive/psychometric) tests in which they have received proper training and supervision.
  • Supervised report writing (any formal letters must be reviewed and co-signed by the assigned clinical supervisor).
  • For individuals with the relevant training and competency: Providing, under clinical supervision, individual and group therapy to children, adults, and families following instructed plans, Evidence Based Models and strategies.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • The Assistant Psychologist is responsible for implementing care as part of a multidisciplinary team, case management, administering psychological tests in which they are trained and competent.
  • The Assistant Psychologist provides psychological services as part of a multidisciplinary team, to aid Clinical Psychologists, Psychological Counsellors, and Physicians in SUDs and mental health clinical care and research.
  • Assist the MDT on research duties, program evaluation and monitoring such as data collection and management and proper use of the Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Behavioral observation and monitoring support in therapeutic activities, providing feedback about patient behavior and helping to develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Shadowing and assisting Clinical Psychologists and other clinicians to carry out prescribed treatments and interventions, facilitating group's sessions (group therapy, support groups, psychoeducation groups) and writing appropriate clinical documentation and reports.
  • Help in assessing patients and documenting care.
  • Helping patients reintegrate into society and become self-sufficient by monitoring their treatment plans and actions, providing support for recovering capital, advocating for them and guiding the families, among other duties.
  • Assisting SUDs and Mental Health (MH) teams in delivering training and support for other staff/individuals.

Educational Responsibilities:

  • Attend Naufar's mandatory training courses and specific training courses relevant to a certain scope of practice as supervisor nominates and work need requirements.
  • Participate in internal or external educational activities programs, meetings, and workshops to enhance professional development as supervisor nominates.
  • Fulfil continuing professional development requirements and participate in relevant learning opportunities like conferences or seminars to enhance personal expertise and apply that expertise to providing continuous quality improvement of patient care at Naufar Center.

Professional/Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology
  • Master's degree in Psychology

Certifications/Licensure:

  • Candidates should have a valid license/registration certificate accompanying the required years of experience.
  • Eligible for license from the Licensing authority in the State of Qatar to practice as Assistant Psychologist.

Experience:

Non-Qatari National candidates:

  • A minimum of 2 years' post-graduation or certification of supervised experience working as an Assistant Psychologist or in the same relevant field.
