En nuestros hoteles, los portadores trabajan con todos los departamentos para que los huéspedes, igual que los empleados, tengan lo que necesiten en el punto en el cual lo necesiten. Si es entregar artículos directamente a los huéspedes en sus habitaciones, o prestar apoyo a limpieza, ingeniería, banquetes, restaurantes, recepción, u otras áreas que busquen ayuda. Los portadores hacen todo lo necesario para lograr la meta. Son fundamentales para garantizar el éxito del hotel.

En cualquier puesto que tenga, hay una serie de temas fundamentales para lograr el éxito; por ejemplo, crear un medio ambiente de trabajo seguro, seguir las políticas y procedimientos de la compañía, respetar la confidencialidad, proteger los activos de la compañía, mantener las normas de calidad, asegurarse de que el uniforme, el aspecto personal y nível de comunicación sean profesionales en todos momentos. Los portadores están siempre en marcha; se ponen de pie, se sientan, caminan mucho, y se dedican a todo tipo de tareas (tienen que moverse por espacios reducidos, espacios elevados, subir y bajar las escaleras y rampas de servicio). Hay que asegurarse que tengan todo lo necesario para su trabajo, (el poder leer y averiguar información de una gran variedad de formatos, incluida la tipografía pequeña; inspeccionar las herramientas, equipo, o maquinas), hacer un papel de “manos a la obra” (mover, levantar, llevar, empujar y colocar objetos que pesan 55 libras o menos sin ayuda; alcanzar hacia arriba, arrodillarse, girarse, estirarse y encorvarse). Es fundamental que los portadores hagan su mejor trabajo y otras tareas razonables que se les solicite, para el éxito de estadía del huésped y el éxito de nuestro negocio.
