Carnegie Mellon University Qatar (CMU-Q) seeks applicants for the position of Associate Dean of Student Affairs (ADSA). The ADSA draws inspiration from the university’s vision for a transformative educational experience, contributes to a collaborative vision for the Qatar campus and its role as part of a global university, and charts a strategic direction for the Division of Student affairs. The ADSA creates access to meaningful opportunities and experiences that enhance the growth and development of students; promote campus, university and community citizenship and engagement; and complement the academic mission of the university. The ADSA leads a highly talented team of professional staff with emphasis on developing and implementing programs and experiences that promote leadership, self
- governance and engagement; health and well-being; career development; and international education and service. The position entails strategic planning, program direction, supervision, financial and human resource management, and student support. Reporting to the CMU-Q Dean and serving as part of the Senior Management Team for the campus, the ADSA also liaises with the Division of Student Affairs on the university’s Pittsburgh campus, coordinating policies and procedures to ensure university-wide coherence.

Specific responsibilities include
- Strategic Planning and Implementation

Steward all aspects of strategic planning and tactical implementation of the array of student programs and activities throughout CMU-Q.
- Student Advocacy

Serve as the chief student advocate within the university community, maintaining effective lines of communication with students and articulating student needs to the university leadership, both in times of crisis and more broadly as part of policy and program development.
- Student Support Resource Development

Coordinate a comprehensive slate of student support measures and crisis intervention resources.
- Budget and Fiscal Management

Manage a comprehensive annual budget that facilitates the student experience. Develop and utilize assessment and evaluation of the students’ experiences and services to guide use of fiscal resources and the development of new initiatives.
- Leadership and Supervision of Student Affairs

Daily supervision of the Student Affairs team, overseeing the functions of student engagement, campus life, counseling and psychological services, health and wellness education, international education (including Study Abroad and Campus Exchange programs), new student orientation, community standards and integrity, career and professional development, and Title IX education. Promote the on-going professional development of the team and advocate for them with university leadership.
- Liaison with Pittsburgh Campus

Work collaboratively with the Pittsburgh-based Doha campus liaison, the Vice

President for Student Affairs, and relevant team members within the Division of

Student Affairs and the Provost's Division in Pittsburgh. Represent interests of CMU-Q students in university-wide programs and exchanges. Stay abreast and contribute to the on-going development of policies and procedures in support of academic integrity, community standards and student success.
- Education City Student Affairs liaison.

Work to enhance the student university experience through developing significant partnerships and coordinating with other Education City Partner Universities as well as with the Qatar Foundation, which manages student residential life.

About CMU-Q:
Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar is a branch campus of Carnegie Mellon University that operates in concert with several other American and European branch campuses under the umbrella of the Qatar Foundation’s Education City. The branch campus closely follows the admissions requirements and English language curriculum of the home campus, which awards all degrees. The several thousand students in Education City students are a broad mix of nationalities, with many from the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. Our campus has served a diverse student body since 2004. Current enrollment is approximately 450 students representing 35 countries. CMU-Q’s faculty is a mix of professionals hired specifically to the campus and seconded faculty from the main campus. CMU-Q’s primary focus is undergraduate education in Business Administration, Biological Sciences, Computer Science and Information Systems.
