About the Role

As a Specialist Doctor – Aeromedical Centre, you will play a crucial role in establishing a world-class Aviation Medical Centre for Qatar Airways. Your primary responsibility will be to provide medical certification for flying staff and offer specialist aviation medicine advice and clinical services to support QR employees and the aeromedical centre's functions.

You will actively engage in research and audits around the aeromedical function, as well as mentor and support company doctors assigned to the aeromedical centre. Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop Policy and Procedures for an efficient and cost-effective Aeromedical Health Service.
  • Support the VP – Aeromedical Centre and Specialist Occupational Health doctor in delivering health educational programs for the company.
  • Contribute to the development and expansion of aeromedical services to support QR operations.
  • Certify the fitness to fly of Qatar Airways (QR) flight deck, cabin crew, air traffic controllers, and other airlines' aircrew when required.
  • Provide medical consultations and regulatory advice to airline employees.
  • Advise on occupational health matters and raise awareness for occupational health-related medical issues within the business.
  • Oversee the performance and practice of company doctors assigned to the aeromedical centre and supervise their practice as necessary.
  • Assess complex or long-term aeromedical cases referred by colleagues or HR business partners using an evidence-based approach.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest scientific research within the aviation medicine arena and engage with the external medical community to monitor developments and ensure international best practice is employed.
  • Provide accurate, timely, and evidence-based aviation medicine advice to staff and airline management.
  • Function as a Medical Review Officer to assist the VP in overseeing the drug and alcohol testing process and policy, and managing cases following testing.
  • Ensure that the aeromedical services remain compliant with regulatory standards from various regulators.
  • Establish reviews of aviation medicine-related cases to enhance productivity, drive down absenteeism, and support employee retention.
  • Maintain and update Aviation Medicine knowledge, expertise, and training across the department for all clinical staff.
  • Liaise with the Aeromedical team and QR Group Flight Operation Departments.
